Job description

The Group Co-Facilitator will work alongside experienced Registered Social Workers and Registered Psychotherapists to support therapeutic groups for children, youth, and families at InnerWorks Counselling London. This position provides invaluable hands-on experience in mental health service delivery, group facilitation, and youth development within a professional clinical setting.

Who we are:

InnerWorks is a private counselling clinic focused on whole-family mental health care. We are on a mission to help families connect and thrive in a world of distractions and busyness.

Our Core Values:

Excellence - We aim for continuous improvement in everything we do. We don’t expect perfection, but we take responsibility for and learn from our mistakes. We want our clients to be blown away by the quality of service they receive at our clinic.

Innovation - We think outside the box to develop new and creative ways to add value to our clients, our clinic, and to the community. We aim to break the mold and provide a unique approach to how we respond to the needs of our clients and community.

Team Players - We work together to provide collaborative care for our clients and support each other as team members. We believe in community over isolation. This means we bring our whole selves to our practice, build each other up, and work from our strengths.

Who You Are:

You are energetic and have a flexible schedule. You connect easily with children and youth, and also with their parents. You have 2+ years experience working with children, youth, or young adults.

You know you’re the right fit for this program because you get excited about helping older kids, teens and young adults learn new skills, develop more positive self-esteem, and take manageable risks by trying new things. You also have a solid understanding of how these activities help improve mental health.

You’re our ideal candidate if you can balance collaborating with a team to support a family while also managing your own schedule and working independently with your clients. You’re not afraid to ask questions when needed, but you don’t require hand-holding to get started in a new role. You’re able to manage your schedule if you’re working with multiple families, and have no problem completing documentation as required. Creativity and follow-through are strengths of yours.

Primary Responsibilities:

Group Co-Facilitation (50% of time): Assist in facilitating therapeutic groups focused on social skills development, emotional regulation, executive functioning, and peer support. Work under the supervision of licensed therapists to create safe, inclusive group environments where participants feel comfortable sharing and learning. Support group activities, facilitate small group discussions, model positive communication and coping strategies, and help participants practice skills learned in sessions. Groups may include children ages 4-17, teens, young adults, and parent support groups addressing various mental health and developmental needs.

Individual Participant Support (20% of time): Provide one-on-one attention to group participants who need additional support during sessions. Help youth regulate emotions when overwhelmed, redirect challenging behaviors positively, and encourage participation from quieter group members. Assist with crisis de-escalation under therapist guidance. Build rapport with participants to foster trust and engagement in the group process.

Program Preparation & Materials (15% of time): Prepare materials for group sessions including activity supplies, worksheets, visual aids, and sensory regulation tools. Set up group spaces to be welcoming and therapeutic. Research age-appropriate activities that support group objectives. Organize resources for specific group themes such as anxiety management, social skills, or emotional identification.

Administrative & Documentation Support (10% of time): Assist with participant registration, attendance tracking, and parent communication regarding group schedules. Help maintain waitlists for popular groups. Prepare post-session summaries documenting group dynamics, participant progress, and notable observations for clinical records. Coordinate logistics for groups including room booking and supply inventory.

Family & Community Engagement (5% of time): Welcome families at drop-off and pick-up, answer basic questions about group programming, and provide resources about InnerWorks services. Assist with outreach to promote groups to potential participants. Support coordination with schools and community partners regarding group referrals.

Skills Development & Training: The co-facilitator will receive comprehensive training in group dynamics, trauma-informed care approaches, emotional regulation techniques, behavioral management strategies, and mental health first aid. Weekly clinical supervision with licensed therapists will focus on developing facilitation skills, understanding developmental psychology, recognizing mental health symptoms in youth, and building professional therapeutic relationships. The position includes exposure to evidence-based therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, play therapy techniques, and mindfulness-based interventions.

Impact: This role directly supports children and youth in developing crucial life skills, emotional regulation, social connection, communication, and coping strategies. Group participants often face anxiety, depression, social challenges, or neurodevelopmental differences. The co-facilitator helps create transformative experiences where young people build confidence, friendships, and tools for lifelong mental wellness.
