Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process traumatic memories differently. Unlike talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (like eye movements) to help your brain "digest" difficult experiences. For birth trauma, this means flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive thoughts can lose their emotional intensity, allowing you to think about your birth experience without feeling overwhelmed.

We have several excellent therapists who specialize in postpartum mental health and trauma: Alison Bekendam (perinatal, anxiety, trauma), Nina Haas (postpartum, anxiety, depression), Marissa Parker (postpartum, autism, EMDR), and Madeline Wilson (postpartum, life transitions). Contact our Client Care Coordinator at 226-400-4330 or hello@innerworkslondon.com and we'll match you with the right therapist.

It's never too late. Birth trauma can surface years later, especially during subsequent pregnancies or when your child reaches certain developmental milestones. EMDR is effective regardless of how long ago the trauma occurred.

No. Many clients don't have a formal diagnosis. You might be dealing with normal parenting stress, a difficult life transition, or simply feeling overwhelmed. If you're struggling, you deserve support.

EMDR works directly with how your brain stores traumatic memories, rather than just talking about them. While talk therapy helps you process experiences cognitively, EMDR helps your brain reprocess the memory itself, often leading to faster and deeper relief from trauma symptoms.
