Therapeutic Coaches

Job description

We are looking for rock star BSWs, DSW, PSW, CYC’s, Registered Psychotherapist (and Qualifying)’s and other experienced people to provide in-home and community mental health support for older children and teens who need support with community mental health goals, lifeskills, transition to adulthood and more.

Who we are:

InnerWorks is a private counselling clinic focused on whole-family mental health care. We are on a mission to help families connect and thrive in a world of distractions and busyness.

Our Core Values:

Excellence - We aim for continuous improvement in everything we do. We don’t expect perfection, but we take responsibility for and learn from our mistakes. We want our clients to be blown away by the quality of service they receive at our clinic.

Innovation - We think outside the box to develop new and creative ways to add value to our clients, our clinic, and to the community. We aim to break the mold and provide a unique approach to how we respond to the needs of our clients and community.

Team Players - We work together to provide collaborative care for our clients and support each other as team members. We believe in community over isolation. This means we bring our whole selves to our practice, build each other up, and work from our strengths.

Who You Are:

You are energetic and have a flexible schedule. You connect easily with children and youth, and also with their parents. You have 2+ years experience working with children, youth, or young adults.

You know you’re the right fit for this program because you get excited about helping older kids, teens and young adults learn new skills, develop more positive self-esteem, and take manageable risks by trying new things. You also have a solid understanding of how these activities help improve mental health.

You’re our ideal candidate if you can balance collaborating with a team to support a family while also managing your own schedule and working independently with your clients. You’re not afraid to ask questions when needed, but you don’t require hand-holding to get started in a new role. You’re able to manage your schedule if you’re working with multiple families, and have no problem completing documentation as required. Creativity and follow-through are strengths of yours.

Position Overview:

As an independent contractor, you will play a crucial role in promoting the mental health and well-being of autistic kids and teens by building strong relationships, teaching life skills, and fostering independence. This is not respite care, and it is not just going out to have some fun. In collaboration with the clinical team there is a clear focus on developing mental health goals, developing a treatment, and assessing progress.

You will maintain regular communication with families and supervising clinicians, and participate in service planning meetings as needed. This position requires a flexible schedule, creative thinking, a comprehensive understanding of autism, and the ability to adapt to the ever-evolving environment of neurodiversity in children.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide In-Home Support: Offer direct support to autistic children & teens within their homes, focusing on their mental health and well-being.

  • Initial Assessment and Planning: Participate in the initial assessment and planning meetings with families and the supervising clinician to develop individualized support plans.

  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with kids, teens and their families, promoting a supportive and nurturing environment.

  • Life Skills Development: Teach and encourage the development of essential life skills, customized to meet the needs and goals of each client, with a focus on fostering independence and meeting mental health and wellbeing goals.

  • Emotional Regulation: Assist adolescents in developing strategies for emotional regulation, coping with stress, and managing anxiety.

  • General Health and Wellness: Promote healthy habits and provide guidance on maintaining physical health, nutrition, and self-care routines.

  • Progress Reporting: Prepare and submit monthly reports to families and clinicians detailing the progress and achievements of the adolescents.

  • Supervision and Collaboration: Attend supervision meetings with the supervising clinician every 4-8 weeks to discuss progress, challenges, and adjustments to the support plan.

  • Flexibility and Availability: Maintain flexibility in working hours, which primarily include after school on weekdays and weekends.

Job Requirements

  • Own Transportation: Possess a reliable means of transportation to travel to the homes of clients.

  • Available for 10-15 hours per week

  • Independent Contractor: this is an independent contractor, invoicing monthly for services rendered and receiving payment at a rate of $35 per hour. Contractors are responsible for remitting their own income tax and CPP/EI deductions

Qualifications:

Professionalism: Maintain professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all interactions with clients, families, and colleagues.

Education: A degree or certification in a relevant field such as Child & Youth Work, Developmental Service Work, or Social Service Work, or a related discipline is preferred, but equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

Clearances: A recent Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check (within the last 12 months).

Professional liability insurance & membership in any relevant regulatory body
